After the success of the TBS Sherwood Small Forest Axe, it made sense to add new models to the range. In typical TBS style, that means they took a slightly different approach to developing these.

Thinking that most contemporary axes have a head that is too heavy to get to work with a shorter handle, they chose to take the opposite approach. By making the head slightly lighter and the handle slightly longer, the balance point changes and the tool is easier and more controllable to handle for longer periods of time.

The TBS Grizedale Hatchet has taken all the best aspects of the Sherwood Small Forest Axe and reduced it to a 500g head and 40cm handle. Most axes only have a handle of 30-35 cm. The extra length increases your reach and the power you can get through the axe, making it a more manageable tool.
