The one and only original Muurikka grill pan was developed in the 1970s by Kai Qvist. The story begins with an idea to expand the diameter of a grill pan to increase the surface area to grill on. After further refining the idea, the first Muurikka grill pan was created, formed from the hatch of a steel container. A new word was coined for the Finnish vernacular: Muurikka. Muurikka became a generic name in Scandinavia for outdoor cooking. And still today, Muurikka outdoor baking trays are produced in Finland. They are rolled from Finnish steel. After the success of the griddle, more items for the outdoor chef(s) soon followed.

The Muurikka Outdoor Griddle or grill pan is a legend in Scandinavia for good reason. Whole tribes have roasted sausages and fried pancakes on it during the long summer evenings.

Today, Muurikka offers a wide range of pans, kettles, cookware and accessories for the outdoor cook. In addition to the grill pan for over the fire, smoke ovens and gas burners came along to make it possible to use the Muurikka in the backyard and even on the balcony.
