The Firesteel Army was originally developed for the Swedish army and still proves its effectiveness. With a Firesteel, you make fire regardless of the weather conditions, altitude or temperature where you are. A Firesteel is therefore an indispensable part of your equipment.

Each Firesteel comes with a so-called 'striker': a small metal plate that you use to scrape along the Firesteel rod. The rod contains an alloy of various metals and magnesium. Scraping releases small particles that ignite almost immediately as sparks. These sparks make it very easy to ignite small, fine, dry material. Think birch bark scrapings, cotton wool, fine dry grass, resin, etc. After some practice, you can easily create a small flame and easily build your campfire until you can cook on it or have enough heat.
